City U8's overcome a strong Sunderland

DCRFC v Sunderland and Gateshead (11th March 2012)

DCRFC U8’s stay focussed to win against committed and strong sides of
Sunderland (145 v 120) and Gateshead (70 v 45)

The weather and rugby is always good when we travel to Sunderland RFC and Sunday 11th March was no exception. 27 DCRFC players ran out for DCRFC U8’s in 3 teams. Every team played 3 matches, 1 each against the 2 Sunderland sides and 1 against Gateshead, so in total 9 matches were played. Thank you to Sunderland for hosting the friendly and keeping all the players active.

All of the players were committed and played their part as a member of the team and squad. The boys on each team worked really well together, with some advanced passing skills, opening up the field of lay with long / miss pass to great effect, a saw a few excellent tries being scored using this technique. I was particularly pleased with our players taking responsibility on and off the ball and not off loading unnecessarily, therefore minimising some of the errors from our previous games on handling errors. Running into spaces, not faces is still the easiest way to get from gain line to try line. Attack and defensive positioning was very good along with excellent committed tagging, (we had a few turnovers from this) along with great passing and running. Everyone demonstrated all of these skills fabulously. The full squad should be proud of themselves.

The Gold team scored some great tries and had some of the closest matches of the day drawing 2 matches, Sunderland and Gateshead and then losing their last match which only lasted 5 minutes so was a very much shortened time. No chance for come-backs!! Well done everyone.
The Reds won all 3 matches with some superb running and long passing when on the offensive and fast and consistent tagging on the defence. Super skills and teamwork.

The Blue team are making huge improvements week on week and in the games this week they won 2 and lost one match. Lots of great running and tagging with some lovely movement of the ball and long passes being used in the game. Staying on-side and not interfering with play when in front of the ball has made a huge difference to the flow of the rugby. Great play.
