Post Match Interview: Matt Mathers (Eccleshill United 0-3 Winterton Rangers)

By Matthew Wilkinson

The Eagles defender reflected on Eccleshill's first loss in over a month after the Winterton Rangers defeat.

Eccleshill United saw its winning run come to an end on Saturday as Winterton Rangers ran out comfortable 0-3 winners at the Mitton Group Stadium.

Matt Mathers was one of few men who put on a performance at the level expected from the club and he discussed where he thinks the game was lost for his side.

Mathers said: "Probably character, we didn't show it in depth and we were letting too many slide through. We were missing a few key players as well to be fair and we just didn't turn up to the races."

The defeat saw Eccleshill's winning run end without much of a fight and the center back was disappointed with the way that record came to an end.

"Definitely (disappointed to lose in that fashion) but it is what it is, we brought it on ourselves and we let it happen and we will just have to deal with it," he stated.

Sean Regan's men now have two games within the next five days to quickly bounce back and Mathers believes that is a good thing.

He said:"We've got a cup game Wednesday but our main focus is on the league and getting out of it, but if we keep giving performances like today we won't be going nowhere, so get the lads back in and the team back to full strength and go from there."

Finally, Mathers spoke about the importance of key players returning soon, especially the return of Charlie Flaherty. He stated:" Definitely, Charlie brings a lot to the game, a lot of heart and character and he controls that midfield as well so the more the merrier."
