Our 2nd XV game at home to Puddletown’s 1st XV in Dorset Division 2 was one of the few games to survive the dreadful weather at the weekend.
Our grounds man Nick Wilson had done a tremendous job to get the pitch fit to play and the big crowd enjoyed a tremendous game with both sides playing some attractive rugby in the difficult conditions.
We flew out of the blocks and dominated the first twenty minutes of the game. Our scrum half and captain Aaron Barker kicked a penalty after two minutes and soon after our lock forward Sam Linford crashed over for a good try. After a further period of sustained pressure our flank forward Will Trim scored a good try and Barker kicked both conversions to open up a 17 point lead. Puddletown came back strongly to score a good try, but they missed the conversion and squandered several good chances, so the score remained at 17-5 at the break.
Puddletown had the best of the second half and came close to scoring on countless occasions, but our defence held firm. Late in the game our number 8 Ben Franklin (pictured) scored a well earned try in the corner to open up a 22-5 lead and make the game safe.
