Our women’s side extended their lead at the top of National Challenge Division1 South West, when they convincingly beat second placed Topsham 50-24 at the Raymond Brown Memorial ground on Sunday.
We took an early lead when scrum half Rosie Tugwell finished off a good try that was converted by full back Chloe Barrett. Topsham hit back with a try before prop forward Sam Nichols crashed over. Again Topsham hit back, this time with a converted try to level the scores, but Tugwell and Barrett then scored tries and Barrett kicked a further conversion to give us a 24-12 lead at the break.
We put in an excellent second half performance and prop forward Chantelle McClure (pictured) scored a hat trick. Our under 18’s centre Maggie Hishon also scored and Barrett kicked three further conversions. Topsham came back strongly late in the game to score two tries and a conversion, but it was all too little and too late.
