“It's been a great occasion.”
Ray Turner, Manager
The Lilywhites came within millimetres of a draw against the League One squad, hitting the bar and having several other chances to draw level.
But
speaking in a video interview, Ray insisted his squad had not looked out of place against Gilllingham.
He said: "I think they acquitted themselves pretty well over the course of the game.
"I was pleased with the continuity, even during the second half with the young players that came on.
"Considering the fact that we've had very little time to train and work on our shape, I think in general we did a good job.
"The most important thing was that it looked like a good night, I hope the supporters were entertained.
""I'm pleased it's been a great occasion."
Ray also spoke of the tremendous atmosphere created in the stadium as 1,214 packed in, and his hope that many would return for the new campaign.
