Club hosts Prince's Trust event

By Derick Thomas

Fleetwood Rugby Union Football Club and Fleetwood Cricket Club are jointly hosting a fun-packed charity spectacular in May.

The Prince's Trust will benefit from hospitality of the sporting neighbours which is being organised by Lancashire Fire & Rescue.

The event takes place over the weekend of 6th/7th May when soap stars from television's Emmerdale will join the fun, although names have yet to be confirmed.

Colin Goodwin, chairman of the rugby club, said "The Prince's Trust brought some of their young people to the rugby club last year to complete one of their project goals. We established a good working relationship and were very pleased to assist with the event in May. It will be a great weekend and will bring the cricket and rugby club closer together."

The weekend will include rugby displays, football and cricket matches along with live music and a Wild West display from the Outpost Club.

Derek Foulkes is the cricket club chair and will welcome the soap stars on the Sunday.

"Fleetwood will take on Emmerdale in a fast-paced 20/20 game and I'm sure the day will be very entertaining."

It is hope the event will raise £7,000 to buy defibrillators for the Prince's Trust county-wide mini-bus fleet.
