In 1975 Esther Phillips sang the classic gay disco anthem "What a difference a day makes", little did we know that she was a massive Frickley fan & could see into the future. OK, technically it's 2 days since Saturday but gimme a break here!
When Medwell & I left the Alvechurch disco on Saturday, we were a bit fed up - the beer was flat & neither of us pulled - however today we were as happy as Larry (Grayson) having watched Frickley "shut that door" on Chasetown with as emphatic a win as you'll see.....
Big Gav (more on him later) came back into the team, with Teddy Bloor making his first full start & Carl Stewart & Josh Nodder taking seats on the bench.
Les Bleus were straight onto the front foot - & pretty much stayed there all game - with Haze & Teddy Bloor having early chances. After 15 minutes Gav decided he'd had enough of nil nil, rolled his defender, got chopped down, got up, placed the ball on the spot, sent the keeper the wrong way, 1 nil, thank you very much, goal number 90 for the Azzuri! 10 minutes later & number 91 is in the onion bag - great set up play by Haze, Yatesy & Jammer set up the Big Man for a relative tap in for him. Duggie swinging in a corner & it's headed out from off the line & the follow up corner nearly saw number 3 for Gav as his downward header nearly beat the keeper. Then Haze made a great chance for himself but hit the post & the ball was cleared after a bit of goal mouth pinball.
Then came an exquisite goal by Allott, side footed into the top corner from just inside the box - take a bow Grant Allott! That was the final meaningful action of the half & if it had been a boxing match the ref would have stepped in at this point
HALF TIME 3-0 FRICKLEY
In similar vein to the unfortunate MacGregor on Sunday morning, Chasetown came out for more punishment in the 2nd half & were duly rewarded. Pretty quickly Gavin made it number 92 for the club, great work by Haze to break into the box & a chipped ball to Gav for him to power a header home - he doesn't miss them - making that his 9th hat trick for Frickley.
It was Tora Tora Tora time now.
Carl Stewart came on for Stevie Hopewell (he scores with his shins apparently) & made a pretty swift impact by scoring his 1st for the Blues, & the 5th for the Blues just after the hour with a well placed strike. Rich Patterson was replaced by Josh Nodder shortly afterwards
The Big Man had done his work for the afternoon & was replaced by Rhys Davies as the Chasetown defence let out a massive sigh of relief. Grant tried to get his second from a Duggie corner but it was deflected just wide.
The only way Chasetown were going to score was from a penalty & when that very opportunity was presented to them Big Sebba just stuck out a massive paw & pushed it wide - well he would, wouldn't he.
Yatesy had a great chance after quality set up from Haze & Carl but his shot just went wide & that was the last action of the game. 5-0 your final score.
WEBMASTER MOTM - proper team display this one, obviously ignited by the GAs - special mentions to Teddy Bloor & Fabian Bailey who neutralised the left hand side & Jammer & Duggie who did likewise on the right. But the Glitterball is a slightly unusual one this week as it goes to Dave Allott for showing Gavin & Grant how to play football!!
257 through the gate - our sincerest thanks to you all
Next up - Buxton away in the FA Cup on Saturday. See you there
