It's just not cricket

When Richie Patterson missed an excellent opportunity when the Blues were 1 up I said to the other members of the Media Team "this will be a cricket score" - half an hour later my prophecy was confirmed but not quite in the manner that I expected.

More or less the same starting 11 as Kidsgrove apart from Patts starting

An early chance for Frickley, Tom Dugdale whipped in a free kick for Jammer to head but the keeper saved comfortably. Next up the keeper aimed an air shot at the ball but the forwards had taken their eyes off the ball otherwise it was a tap in for someone. After 20 minutes, Haze got the ball to Gav in the 6 yard box & you know what's coming next - apparently there was a case to be made for Haze getting the final touch - but it says Gav in the paper so that is his 97th for Frickley. Straight after there was a goal mouth melee when we could have scored about 5 times....but didn't. The came the pivotal RPatts effort, Gav was on the edge of the box, back heeled it into the path of the advancing Patts but he put his shot wide when he looked well placed to score.

Then Bedworth had their first real break of the half & scored with a decent effort on the half hour. Soon after Gav conjured a header out of not very much which hit the bar but then Bedworth replied with their second as everyone seemed to stand off their attacker who just picked his spot.

HALF TIME - FRICKLEY 1 BEDWORTH 2

Spencer rang the changes at half time with Grant Allott & Jack Burton coming off & Nicky Darker & Steve Hopewell coming on & the first action any of them saw was Bedworth scoring their 3rd with a cracking strike in the 1st minute of the 2nd half, that was pretty much game over & 5 minutes later it definitely was as the visitors made it 4-1.

Matt Overton came on for Teddy Bloor, & the Blues never stopped trying but the application of the effort wasn't good enough. We had a great chance to get back to 4-2 late in the game, with a penalty award for handball but Gavs effort was well saved by the keeper. We did make it 4-2 in the dying embers when Steve Hopewell scored with a deft flick but Bedworth had more than enough in the locker to prevent any unlikely comeback.

FINAL SCORE - FRICKLEY 2 BEDWORTH 4

We were served up a poor product for an hour of this game & following on from the poor 2nd half at Kidsgrove, the players need to step up to the plate & give us a performance.

WEBMASTER MOTM - probably only Gav came out of this with any credit, scored one (should have been 2) , set up Patts & hit the bar but the Glitterball goes to anyone of the 208 attendees who stuck it out to the final whistle.

Next up we're away at Carlton on Wednesday
