Welcome to Fullerians U13s 2022-23

Welcome to the 2023-24 Fullerians Under 13 Squad

The U13s' age group is made up of boys who will be in school Year 8 as of 1st September 2023.

We are always looking to recruit new members to our friendly squad of thirty plus boys who regularly turn up to train, play and enjoy rugby. We cater for players of all abilities, seeking to develop those who have been playing to a high standard with lots of ability and experience right the way through to those who pick up a rugby ball for the first time when they come to Fullerians.

We have RFU-qualified volunteer coaches and referees running the sessions, all of whom are DBS checked and focus on child welfare and protection best practices.

We offer structured rugby skills training in a game-orientated enjoyable environment in which the boys will develop new skills, make firm friendships and have fun. We will also have regular fixtures for both A team & a development teams against other clubs from the Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Middlesex rugby areas. In addition, we also enter County competitions and organise an end of season tour weekend which cements team spirit and gives the boys a chance to spend quality time together.

We actively coach the RFU's Core Values of Rugby:

• TEAMWORK,
• RESPECT
• ENJOYMENT
• DISCIPLINE
• SPORTSMANSHIP

Training & Playing:

We usually train and play matches on Sunday mornings at 11:15am at the Fullerians home ground in Watford. We will have some away fixtures but will advise parents in advance: most games are reasonably local.
We are also train on Wednesday evenings (1830-1930hrs). We are hoping to start this mid August but will update closer the time.

Please ensure your child has some rugby boots and a mouth guard along with appropriate clothing/kit.

Getting involved:

If you would like your child to play fun rugby with a great bunch of players (and coaches!), you are very welcome to join us. You can just turn up on Sunday morning (or Thursday evening) and give it a go. There is absolutely no pressure. They can join in for the first few weeks (at the start or at any time during the season) to see if they like it.

Contact Jules Goodair at juniorrugby@fullerians.co.uk if you have any questions, or come to see what it’s like yourself at any training session (though do check with us first that we aren’t playing an away fixture!). We’d be delighted to welcome you to the club.

We also welcome all parents getting involved with coaching and administration for the squad. All parents will be expected to help with the U13s' turns to fulfil kitchen and car parking duties during the season: details will be sent out to all parents early in the season.

U13 rugby regulations for 2017-18

We will be strictly following RFU Age Grade Related Rugby being rolled out across all of mini and junior rugby. Boys will play the same rules at school as they do with Fullerians which will make life a lot easier for everyone. The key differences from the U12 rugby we used last year are quite minor and will hopefully be quick to be grasped by the boys:

- Now up to 13 aside on a pitch of up to 90 x 60 metres.
- Six person contested scrums – strike and push allowed.
- Kicking ball from floor (‘grubber kicks’) allowed.

For more on the Age Grade Related Rugby see RFU regulations for Under 13 rugby
