Garforth Town Man of Match: Brad Williams
Garforth Town Goal Scorers: Raul Fletcher and Furuk Okuneage
You know 'back in the day' if a goal keeper was awarded a teams' man of the match accolade it was because he had pulled off a string of fine
saves. Well not any more it seems - not if this match is anything to go by - for Garforth keeper Brad Williams made just the one top drawer save, parrying a vicious 10 yard pile driver over the crossbar in the first half, yet walked away with the team's man of the match award. A just reward for his excellent distribution of the ball which allowed Garforth to constantly launch phases of play from deep lying areas. This was an excellent game played out by 2 technical, committed teams - Garforth were hoping to continue their winning run [they won their last 2 games] from last season and Campian were looking to build on their impressive 4 -1 away win at Yorkshire Amateurs last week. Campian took the lead on about 20 minutes when a low driven cross seemed to take a slight deflection and the ball was tapped in at the far post by a Campian forward. Garforth equalised about 10 minutes later when good combination play between Cuttle and Reynolds down the left resulted in the ball being transferred to Garforth striker Monkam. Monkam floated the ball towards the far post where Raul Fletcher did really well to get to it just before the keeper. 1 - 1 at half time. Campian dominated possession for the first 20 minutes of the second half without really breaching the Town's defences. All that changed on 65 minutes when a lapse of concentration by a Town full back allowed the speedy Campian winger to blast past him with the ball and beat keeper Williams from about 5 yards. Garforth equalised about 10 minutes later. A 35 yard free kick was expertly delivered into the penalty box by Raul Fletcher and onto the head of Micah Bleah. Micah rose [you know.. like 6ft2 powerhouse centre halves do] and headed the ball back across the 6 yard box and the ball was bundled into the net by Furuk Okuneage. 2 -2 and that is how the scoreline remained right up to the final whistle. The Garforth boys now visit Yorkshire Amateurs this coming Wednesday knowing that a win or a draw will create a new record for them of 4 matches unbeaten.
