A young, vibrant Hadley Wood & Wingate outfit completed a comprehensive 90-minutes against local opposition, Brimsdown FC, at the Maurice Rebak Stadium in a 6-2 win.

It was the visitors nevertheless who were inches from taking the lead with just seven minutes on the clock. Robin Anipa’s cross finding Charlie Clarke who somehow guided his header over from six-yards. At the other end, Williams Agyei-Danquah won possession as he found Andreas Kyprianou, who just couldn’t generate enough power behind his placed attempt.

Amon Walton-Owen broke away down the left flank rolling a low cross towards Kyprianou whose strike took a deflection off centre-half Eric Gbio, which forced a change of direction, along with a superb one-handed stop from ‘keeper Kemal Ozyasa. The shot-stopper was needed again following a carbon-copy cross from Walton-Owen, which saw Cameron Lyttle force a fine save from six-yards. The winger had another chance seconds later, but also couldn’t find the net as he hit the post.

In the 36th minute, a deserved lead arrived. Kyprianou controlled another Walton-Owen cross prior to seeing his shot find its way inside the near-post. Kyprianou almost had a second just five minutes later, though Ozyasa palmed his angled effort away out to Nicholas Kouroushi who tapped home.

It was 3-0 five minutes after the restart, Kyprianou broke inside from wide right before curling a stunning finish into the top corner. Set-pieces looked like the visitors only saving grace, and the towering Gbio ensured they found a way back into the game heading in from inside the area on the stroke of an hour.

Brandon Dujon broke through on goal twice in the space of minutes, but was denied on both occasions. First by the feet of Ozyasa stopping his outside of the foot attempt, and then by the side netting, following an audacious lobbed attempt. With 21 minutes left in the half, it was 3-2. Another deep delivery saw Clarke’s acrobatic volley squeeze its way in at the near-post.

Frankie Webb’s side however, put Brimsdown to the sword in the last 15 minutes. Alex Hadjithemistou’s strike from outside the area was palmed away only as far as Dujon who found the net on the rebound. Sandor Nyeki forced a reaction save from the ‘keeper who tipped away his piledriver, as stoppage time arrived resulting in quick-fire goals from Nathan Henry.

Reaching three minutes of added time, the forward powered his strike from inside the area across goal for 5-2. Just before the final whistle, he found enough time to cut inside from the left flank rolling in a shot for six – and the three points.
