M1 edge 9 goal thriller

The Men's 1st team got their first win in their first home game back in the Yorkshire Premiership division with a 5-4 win over City of York 2s

The Men's 1st XI got their return to the Yorkshire Premiership division underway and their first points with an entertaining 5-4 victory over City of York 2s

After suffering defeat away in their first game the team were keen to set their stall out to be difficult to beat at home and got off to a great start when striker Jake Bamforth opened the scoring with a neat finish to a flowing move.

City of York responded with two goals against the run of play to take a 2-1 lead. The first was a fiercely struck shot into the far corner from the edge of the D that gave Keeper Matthew Breton no chance. The second was from a penalty corner after Connor Sutcliffe was adjudged to have pushed a player off the ball.

Just before halftime last season's top scorer Michael Jones levelled things up at 2-2 with his opening goal of the season as he sent a drag flick into the top corner after great work from Bamforth had won the penalty corner

In a similar start to the first half Jones took Halifax into the lead again finishing low into the corner after being put through with a pass from Josh Barron. However, York responded yet again with two goals from their best spell of the game to regain the lead 4-3.

Halifax were in control of the game for most of the second half as they pushed for an equaliser. Barron was beginning to find more space and time to create chances and it looked like being one of those days as numerous penalty corners won were not converted.

Persistence paid off though as with a couple of minutes to go and yet another penalty corner won, Jones stepped up and fired in the drag flick in for his 3rd of the game

Halifax and man of the match Jones were not finished there though. In the dying seconds as Jones picked up the ball inside his own half and spotted the run of forward Elliott Bullick, his sumptuous long ball evaded all the York defenders and found the young forward with just the keeper to beat. Bullick's deft touch sent the ball under the keeper and trickled into the goal for a dramatic 5-4 victory

Halifax face a tough away trip to Harrogate 2s next.
