Harlow on form to take a point from second-placed Kidlington

By

Harlow showed determination to take another well earned point in their fight to avoid relegation

After a tough battle earlier in the season against a strong Kidlington side, Harlow knew that they would be in for a difficult morning but on a run of four undefeated, showed real determination and fight to challenge the second placed side. With Abbie on holiday, Lisa pulled on the goalkeeping kit for Harlow and had an excellent game.

The game began with Harlow looking a little nervous, and Kidlington had a 10-minute spell of pressure on the Harlow goal. Hazel, Clare and Karen managed to restrict the number of shots on goal putting in some excellent tackles. Harlow began to come into the game and had a good spell of possession with a number of short corners awarded and a couple of efforts just wide of the Kidlington goal. Anne, Claire, Nat and Aimee all had brilliant games in midfield, showing tenacity and strength to win the midfield battle and stop some of Kidlington's better players from getting involved in the game.

Harlow went into half time feeling slightly disappointed not to be ahead after some good pressure. A committed and battling second half performance ensured that Kidlington had very few meaningful attempts on target as their players were prevented from getting inside the D. When they did break down the Harlow defence, solid keeping from Lisa prevented them from getting the ball in the back of the net.

Harlow had a couple of good opportunities of their own, after a short corner strike from Heather found Aimee on the left post just unable to turn the ball into the net. A couple of excellent runs from Harlow forwards needed last ditch tackles from the Kidlington defence to stop them in their tracks. Harlow ended the game on top with some good play from Ola, Belinda and Fitty around the Kidlington D, and they were unlucky in the end not to take more than a point from the game.

Despite feeling like we could have snatched all three points, this was a superb result against a good side who will be promoted to Trysports Division 1 at the end of the season - and a result that shows how far we have come since the first half of the season. Well done to everyone for a spirited performance and the continuation of our five game unbeaten run, especially Anne who took the player of the match plaudits.

With relegation rivals Amersham and Chalfont beating Bracknell 4-0, Harlow will go into the game against Oxford next week looking for a win to move out of the bottom two.
