STOWMARKET TOWN 6 HAVERHILL ROVERS 1

By

Hosts Woodbridge came back from two goals down to earn a point against Haverhill, a substitution with 25 minutes to go and a disputed penalty call proving to be the turning points.

THURLOW NUNN PREMIER LEAGUE

A minute into added time at the end of the first half Haverhill took the lead when a curling shot from Mitchell Burr from the centre of goal bounced in front of goalkeeper Alfie Strong, the ball being spilled and spinning away to his right before a combination of spin and Prince Mutswunguma ended with the latter having a tap in and putting his side in front.

Ten minutes into the second period the away side scored their second and seemed to be comfortable, Woodbridge losing possession the centre circle and Mickey Davis rode a challenge before getting past two more defenders and taking a low 25 yard placed shot that left Strong kicking himself after it went under him and into the far bottom right corner.

The home side seemed defeated and lacklustre at this point until former Ipswich captain Carlos Edwards made an entrance on 65 minutes and things tilted their way, away 'keeper Mitchell Ware making a great save to palm over a header from substitute Mark Ray after Matt Mackenzie's cross.

On 71 minutes Mutswunguma appeared to be clipped as he dribbled into the area but, having previously been warned, he was cautioned by the referee for simulation despite what seemed to be contact.

On this Woodbridge moved forward and, on 74 minutes, pulled a goal back, Baden Holmes' deep diagonal cross from the left finding Mackenzie at the far post, who calmly stroked a first time right side foot volley low, across the rooted Ware and into the far bottom left corner with a fine finish.

The equaliser came with 87 minutes gone after a strong shot from Edwards stung the hands of Ware and, with the ball still being in the danger area, a 10 yard shot from Ben Granham was deflected into the net.

ROVERS : Ware, Geoghegan, Davis, Yallop, Holmes, Noble, Haines (Miles, 83), Halls, Burr, Lovell, Mutwsunguma. Subs not used – Sartini, Abbott.
