Haydock Under12s vs Pilks Recs Under 12s

On Wednesday 25th April the Yickers welcomed current cellar dwellers Pilks Recs in the ‘little derby’ in front of a large crowd at Yick Stadium.

Mind games before kick off didn’t disrupt the Yickers who were totally focused on the job in hand. Before kick off the lads welcomed Haydock celebrity, part time RFL model and all round nice bloke Jordan Gibson, who gave the young Yickers some words of advice having come through the Haydock ranks himself and now playing for Lancashire, England and the current NWC Man of Steel.

Whilst in the changing rooms Pilks took Haydocks side of the pitch, Haydock won the toss and made them change back, Haydock were in no mood for silly games.

Pilks ran hard and got to Haydocks line but fumbled the ball giving possession back to the Yickers. Connor Johnson, Ben Ashton ran hard got Haydock to Pilks 20m but a mistake relieved the pressure and gave the ball to Pilks.

Pilks then ran hard and Logan Jones, Caidan Hart-Wilson, Robbie Edwards and Ewan Haughton tackled like machines to keep Pilks out on the last tackle. Caidan Hart-Wilson scooted and threw a dummy bamboozling the Pilks defence almost going the full length but was tackled by the Pilks cover defence. Jamie Short then ran hard on the back of it making even more ground, Ben Ashton then took a drive scattering the Pilks defenders to score in the corner, then ‘young Botica’ Keiron Jones slotted over the conversion to take the game to 6-0.

Haydock kicked to Pilks, James Hobson, Todd Wood, Caidan Hart-Wilson and Jamie Short tackled well and Pilks coughed up possession. Ben Ashton took a drive and ran all the way to score again, K. Jones missing he conversion, 10-bart to the Yickers.

James Hobson, Kai Kearns, Owen Dalecki, Robbie Davies and Caidan Hart-Wilson tackled well, Pilks threw the ball straight into tough gifting possession to the Yickers. Connor Johnson took the ball from the scrum and went on a mazey run getting Haydock into the Pilks half, but Haydock fumbled giving the ball to Pilks. Pilks ran hard but a mistake gave the ball to Haydock, a smart move between Ben Ashton and Keiron Jones saw Jones cross the line but get lost control of the ball. The referee blew his whistle making the scores 16-Bart at half time.
