Scott leads Ingleton on big adventure

By

Ingleton were looking down the barrel of defeat on Saturday before Will Scott's catch swung the game back

Following a week of heavy rain, Graham Kellett won the toss and invited the visitors to have a bat on a damp surface.

Trimpell started strongly as wicket keeper Baldwin took 6 runs off James Preston's 1st over, however with Kellett, the opening bowlers were able to pin the score back to 15 runs off 8 overs.

Kellett got the breakthrough early as he trapped Churton back in his crease plumb LBW for 1.

Baldwin and Thompson, steadied the proceedings and started to increase the scoring rate and apply pressure to the hosts bowling attack as they moved the score onto 39 before the opener glanced the ball to squareleg, where Josh Capstick was waiting to pounce.

The visitors reached 73 for 2 at the drinks interval.

A double bowling change saw France enter from the Brown & Whittaker end and spinner Hughes from the centre end, the latter created problems for the batsmen with turn once the 2 week rustiness cleared.

As the batsmen started to dominate up stepped Will Scott in the slips, diving full stretch forwards he managed to scoop up the ball to remove Lambert off Hughes for 26.

Reviewing the claim from several angles the TMO was able to prove clearly that Scott managed to get his little fingers under the catch to the delight of his team mates.

Wickets then started to fall on a regular basis as Hughes picked up 4 and France 2.

As Trimpell looked to collapse, up stepped Peter McDermid (19*) and Sam Antcliffe (4*) to bat out the remaining 7 overs to tea, adding 26 runs, reaching 137-8.

Just over 3 runs an over the target for the hosts to gain victory, with Graham Kellett and Chris Fleming walking out to the middle.

The bottom side weren't going to roll over and concede the game with McDermid (8-3-12-0) at one end and Beniston at the other, they made it difficult to score. Patience was the key on this track and that's just what the openers had, scoring 11 runs off the 1st 5 overs.

Beniston then went for 12 runs off his next over which saw Ingleton catch up to the run rate. The partnership was broken in the 17th over as Cope trapped Fleming LBW for 17 as he shared a 50 run opening stand.

Hughes joined Kellett in the middle and the pair added a further 63 runs for the 2nd wicket. Kellett reached his 50 from 68 balls before being bowled by part timer bowler and founder member of ZZ top Paul Russell, Russell followed up his prize by claiming Hughes in his next over as the visitors required a further 14 runs to win with 13 overs to go.

John Reid was in no mood to wait around as his scored the 14 runs off the remaining 5 balls of the over including 3 x 4s.

The result pushes the side into the top 5 at the expense of Coniston with 4 games to play, 19 points off second place.

Next up is a trip down Powderhouse Lane to take on Westgate who are looking to bounce back from their defeat in the cup final on Sunday
