4th and final meeting of the season and the boys needed to try and get something out of this game as we had lost the three previous encounters.
As it had been a frustrating few weeks with the weather and last Saturdays semi final being cancelled as Blaenau Ffestiniog Res resigned from the league we had a free date on the sunniest day of the season.
The game started at a frantic pace and Bro Goronwy took the lead on 3 minutes when Callum Thomas reacted the quickest in the box when after the ball smashed against the cross bar twice he slotted the a ball into the back of the net.
As the half went on the Bridge started to take some control of the game but couldn’t capitalise on any of the chances that fell their way. Gareth Barker was unlucky with one effort that Gaz Owen make a brilliant save to put it over the bar, and for Bro Sam Roberts missed hit a glorious chance when through one on one with Lee Moore.
2nd half started with the same intensity as the 1st half with both teams trying to get the better of each other.
In the 55 mins, the Bridge made their 1st sub bringing on Lance Williams for Guy Hughes form his 1st appearance of the season. (hopefully not the last) A change in formation saw us go to the custom 4-4-2 with Lance and Gaz up top.
On 63 minutes some brilliant close control from Gareth Barker had the better of the Bro centre half and the predator calmly steered the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Lance gave us more of an option when he was holding off defender and creating half chances, Lance himself had one when he had the better of the full back only for his effort to be straight at the keeper.
subs for the Bridge Dave Roberts and Dion Williams replacing Gareth Barker and Tim Evans
In the final few minutes of the game both teams had chances to win the game when Lee Moore made a world class save, at the other end a cross field ball from Dave Roberts to Lance Williams, with the drop of a shoulder the defender was beaten and the ball was whipped into the box and in came Tom Parry and smashed the ball into the back of the net…… their we were thinking it was the winner but the Bro liner had his flag up and the referee decided to go with the liner and give offside. A number of neutrals at the game were shaking their heads in disbelief as Lance wasn't offside ..
Final Whistle went at the match finished as a 1 – 1 draw
The lads were disappointed with the outcome of the game as they all felt that they did enough to take all three points… but as they say football is a funny old game.
