Old Brentwoods arrived at Loughton RFC on an overcast Saturday 4th November, with many of the squad ready and out on the pitch by 1.50pm there was little sign of opponents. Following a warm up lead by Rich, we agreed to move kick off back to allow the late arriving home team to prepare.
We kicked off at 2.50pm, receiving at the top of the hill and running the ball straight back at Loughton through the forwards. The balls was spread wide through the backs of Adam Grace, Wally Smith & Paul Barton to get into the opponents 22.
Pressure built through initial plays creating great momentum in the scrum led by Charlie Raymond Snr, Johnny Janes and Andy Parish. The Scum was experience and bigger than the opposition pushing them back every time, penalty called in front of the posts, the ball taped and went wide to Aaron Knapp in space to bump the rushing defensive player going over for the try. Adam Grace converting the try.
Recovering the ball from the restart, the forwards moved the play up the field applying pressure at the scum and line outs. Loughton were developing and started to disrupt the forwards play. The ball was spread wide through Barry O’Connor to Winger Dan Krout who sprinted down the wing into the 22. Loughton giving away penalties scum called ball presented and hard lines from the backs were unable to get over. Johnny Janes stepped up with a change of ball direction and ran over to player to score left of the posts. Adam Grace converting the try.
Loughton had now started to disrupt line outs with Jumpers Josh Turrell & Matt Hardy both being injured in play options were limited and became readable. Penalties were called for high tackles and hands in the ruck, OBRFC were able to wriggle up the field to a breakdown 7 meters out, when Ralph Kannor stepped and danced his way over the line. 30 minutes played the score stood at 0-19 to the visitors.
A period of possession from Loughton came with them getting the ball to halfway but a penalty and yellow card due to foul play occurring at the breakdown by Loughton. Supporters disagreeing with the decision, the referee decided to abandoned the game due to supporter unrest and verbal aggression at the 34 minute mark.
We wish Loughton luck for the remainder of the season and look forward to hosting them at Ashwells Road in the future.
MOTM – Ralph Kannor (Attacking awareness)
