The Ossett Trinity Tigers battled hard for 70mins against a tough Bradford side.
Ossett even though the weather was not great it didn't stop them laying fast flowing rugby and it showed with Ossett camped in the Vic Rangers half and was dually rewarded with a fine well worked try down the left flank. Arron Williams picked up the ball from Anthony Lindsay and fed Adam Firth with his pace only needed 2 foot of space went down the wing to score, with Liam Ward filling in at full back converting well.
Ossett continued to press and looked the more likely to score, and as they pushed unfortunately the pished their luck too. A training ground move was attempted down the right flank and Young Craig Colbeck slipped out a loose pass and Vic winger raced 80metre to score an unconverted try.
This knocked wind out of Ossett and Vic Rangers sensed this and went on the front foot scoring 2 more times but only converting 1 for a 14-6 lead. But Ossett bounced back and after a penalty in the Vic Rangers 20m a couple of tackles and two recent signings combined with scrum half Wayne Hartley firing out a pass to winger Daniel Pickles to score on debut. Liam Ward converted beautifully from the touch line. to make it 14-12 at half time.
2nd half Ossett started like the first by camping in their opponents half and after10 mins stand off Anthony Lindsay went on a trade mark mazy run and crashed over to make it 18-14 with a great kick from Liam Ward. Ossett kept on pushing and was unlucky not to score a couple more but from resolute defence from Victoria Rangers.
This continued up until 70 min when Bradford had a well worked try down the Ossett right hand side when a slip in the defence let Vic score in the corner for an unconverted try. This left the game tied at 18 a piece with 8 minutes to go. Ossett tried a short kick off and recovered the ball well but unfortunately the attack lasted 3 tackles before the ball was spilt. Tigers conceded a penalty to hand Rangers yards and after some pressure Rangers scored at side of posts to make it 24-18.
Vic Rangers then broke through the tiring Ossett defence and some excellent cover defence got the tigers back, but a penalty conceded in front of the posts and Rangers took advantage to give the score a flattering look.
Ossett was lead well once again by the pack of Stuart McClennan, Marcus Stocks and Taz Winstanley. But
with 2 recognised half backs Ossett looked like a team to be reckoned with, and with 3 games left of winter the signs are looking better for a strong summer team.
