A Josh Moore goal on the hour put Parkgate back in the game

Parkgate fell to a Toolstation NCEL Premier League defeat away at Athersley Recreation yesterday afternoon-and after the game, Manager Ross Shelton spoke to the Parkgate website about the defeat at Sheerien Park, which leaves the Steelmen in 19th place in the table, writes Colin Muncie.
Two goals from Lee Garside ( 15 and 30 minutes) put the Penguins two up after half an hour in front of a crowd of 125. A Josh Moore goal on the hour put Parkgate back in the game, but despite chances at both ends, the home side confirmed a 2-1 victory and three welcome points
Ross, looks like we were punished for another slow start yesterday. What was your take on the game as a whole?
Yes definitely agree with that. Two sloppy goals to concede early in the game and we're chasing the game straight away. As the first half scoreline showed we were poor, creating few chances and not really showing anything. It’s definitely something we need to work on -starting the game more brightly.
The second half was a little bit better but we're under no illusions that we have to keep improving all the time and we have to be a lot better than we are at the minute. There are a lot of new players in the squad and it is going to take time but we know results have to pick up straight away.
What did you change at half time? You looked a bit more direct.
Yes we changed to 4-4-2. We thought we could get at Athersley getting the ball forward as early as possible and moving the ball quickly. The second half was a little bit better and that reflected in getting the goal back.We have to keep improving but I am confident the results will turn around.
You must have been pleased by Josh Hemmingway's first start?
Yes very pleased. He was the best player for us yesterday and he will only continue to improve and come in to his own.
What was your view of the late offside decision?
He (Danny Harris) looked onside to me. He came from behind our striker and looked like he was clearly onside. The officials knew what I thought about the decision after the game but these things happen. That's football. The result wasn't reflected on that one decision so I don't really want to comment too much on the officials- it's not an easy job they have.
We go again next Saturday and the 3 points is a must for us to get back on track and start to get that winning mentality into the lads.
