INCORPORATED!

Argaum Become a Limited Company!

It is with pleasure that I announce that Plymouth Argaum RFC is now incorporated!

This journey started in 2015 when the RFU brought to our attention the need to be incorporated by asking rugby clubs the following “Would you bet your house on the chance that nothing untoward will ever happen to your rugby club? If you are a committee member and your club is an unincorporated club you may be doing just that.”

Without rugby's volunteers, the game as we know it would not exist. Plymouth Argaum RFC does not want to see those very same people unnecessarily running the risk of personal financial disaster because of their commitment on behalf of the game and their community.

So we set out on a journey in November 2015 and it turned out to be a little more complex than first thought as our land that the clubhouse sits on was not registered with Land Registry even though it’s been in its current location since the 1950’s. To have the land registered we needed to first track down the Trustees of the club and this took some time with most being in their late 70’s and early 80's (one no longer lives in Plymouth and one was found to have been murdered in Cuba in the early 1980’s!). Once tracked down we got them to sign some legal paperwork and then applied to Land Registry. We now have a title deed for our land which is hugely important going forward.

This meant that an EGM was held on 31st March 2017 to vote on a resolution to move to incorporation where a 66.7% majority of all members was required and we had an overwhelming 82% vote in favour. This allowed us to then apply for incorporation and on Friday 1st September 2017 this was granted by Companies House and Plymouth Argaum Rugby Football Club Limited was born.

This has all been done with Solicitors Nash & Co.

There is still some legal paperwork to do with transfer contracts and transfer of assets from the Trustees to the incorporated company but the very valued volunteers of Plymouth Argaum are now protected from financial risk.
