By Pete Batley:
An excellent game of rugby played today. Due to UKAFRL commitments, Op Temperer, Somalia, South Sudan and Project Anemoi both teams were decimated and left without many established players but that did not stop the Corps fielding full teams and putting on a great display of rugby league.
The game was tight throughout with all the elements that make us love this game on show. There was big hits, line breaks, 40/20s, biff, banter, attacking moves and awesome defence.
The RS fought hard from the off and had good possession throughout but the 'Sapper Wall 'D'' was hard to break down. Skipper Tom Howley did roll back the years with a well taken try and an almost full length clean break. The Sappers toiled in attack and took the advantage through powerful forward play and some great footwork from the HBs.
The Sappers now hold the accolade of being on a 20 game unbeaten streak and it is now down to the AGC to stop them in their tracks.
Congratulations to the players and management but especially to Sapper Head Coach Mike Thompson who has overseen this streak and continues to prove his credentials as a first class coach.
The game was played in good spirits and the biggest winner was Army Rugby League.
