Letchworth come out deserved winners in a hard fought game.

On a dry afternoon Walden hoped to get back to winning ways but unfortunately it was not to be as visitors Letchworth come out worthy winners in a hard fought game.
Letchworth scored first after only 2 minutes when they regained the ball from the kick off when Walden failed to clear their lines, 0- 5 after 3 mins.
Walden hit back with some determined attacks and forced Letchworth to concede numerous penalties and kicking three of them to go 9 – 5 ahead after 16 mins.
Letchworth scored their second try half way through the first half to go back ahead 9 -12.
Walden got their first try with some fine phase play that sucked in the defence, working the ball deep into the visitors 22 and the move was finished off by centre Mark Kimberley 14 - 12 24mins.
Letchworth then scored twice in quick succession, first a push over try and then a break by their influential centre to take the lead 14 -26 one that they were not to releinquish. With 5 mins to go in the half Walden thought they had got back into the match when flyhalf Chris Clayton-Smith playing only his second full game after long injury break deftly chipped over the on rushing defence and managed to regather the ball and race under the posts 21- 26.
But this good work was undone when Letchworth scored again in the last play of the half to leave the half time score at 21 – 33.
The second half was hard fought when both teams tightened up their defence but Letchworth scored twice mid way through the second half to take the game away from Walden at 21 – 47 with still 20 mins to play.
Walden scored their third try with 12 minutes still to play as they worked an overlap on the left to put winger Ollie Webber over the line. 26 – 47.
Walden tried hard to get one more try to take something away from the game but ran out of time and the final whistle blew.
Walden will know that they have to work hard in training and hope in the next few weeks that some of those injured will get back to full fitness. Mentions must go to Tom Cannon making his first team debut and Colts players Keegan Diggons and Will Walker for stepping up and not looking out of place at this level.

We are always on the look out for new players to play either in the first team in London N1 or the Saxons (2nd team) in Eastern Counties 1West, if you are interested in joining our friendly club please contact either info@swrfc.co.uk or graham.marshall2@ntlworld.com
