Shepshed Dynamo 2 Heanor Town 3

By

Shepshed Dynamo suffered their first defeat at home to Heanor Town.

After comprehensively beating South Normanton Athletic in midweek which took them top of the Midland Football League table on goal difference this defeat dropped Shepshed back to fifth in the table. Despite creating more chances than Heanor and coming back from two goals down the visitors came away with all three points with a late winner.

Shepshed made changes from the side which travelled to South Normanton in midweek Steve Morse starting in goal in place of the unavailable Denhm Hinds, new signing Shay Brennan making his starting debut in place of Liam Read.

But it was Heanor who started the brighter James Sleigh effort blocked by Josh Hill on six minutes and Sam Vickers ball across the box cleared for a corner with Wilkinson firing the resultant kick over the bar.

Shepshed settled with Liam Hurst ball across the box just evading Michael Reeve on nine minutes. Then Shay Brennan was close from Hursts free kick on ten minutes. Hurst Shepsheds current top scorer should have put them in the lead on twelve minutes his header from Luke Richards cross going wide of the right hand post.

Heanor fought back a long kick from Oliver Cammidge found Sleigh and Joe Pheasant did well to clear. A minute later Hill seemed to have averted the danger but a sublime volley from Liam Oliver gave Heanor the lead.

Dynamo continued to provide the greater threat Alex Trokes effort blocked on twenty minutes with Pheasant on the rebound into Cammidge and a minute later Hurst headed over the top.

Chances then for both teams on twenty five minutes with Richards blocked and Vickers wide for the Lions.

Sheoshed continued to press towards the end of the first half but with no indentation into Heanors lead. Karl Whymarks free kick tipped onto the post on thirty minutes, Reeve supplying Brennan but his effort was blocked by Shaun Roulston a minute later, followed by Hursts effort saved by Cammidge straight afterwards. Three minutes later Hurst fired wide

Despite all the pressure Heanor took a two goal lead on thirty eight minutes. Sleigh rounded Morse and his effort was blocked on the line by Betts but Naylor was all alone to tap into the empty net.

Shepshed had further chances before the break but Ben Harris's corner was cleared on forty minutes and Jake Betts effort was saved on the stroke of half time.

Dynamo continued to be the more dominant in the second half with Cammidge out to Reeve on forty seven minutes and Brennans effort blocked a minute later.

It looked like it wasn't to be Shepsheds day as Brennan had a further effort go over the bar on sixty minutes and Reeves effort saved on sixty five.

But Dynamo were given a lifeline with Betts reducing the arrears on sixty seven minutes heading home from a Karl Whymark free kick.

Brennan nearly equalised for Shepshed shortly afterwards but his effort went over the top. Elliott Reeves for Heanor then had his effort saved by Morse on eighty five minutes.

The home support thought Betts had salvaged a point on eighty eight minutes when he headed home Hursts corner. But near enough straight from the restart Heanor attacked down the left with Sleigh firing from distance passed Morse.

It was too late for Shepshed to get back into the game.

So Dynamo suffered their first defeat of the season and unlike the previous three games although chances were a plenty on this occasion they were unable to turn oppurtunities into points.
