Shirebrook Come Back In Vain Due To Injury Time Goal

An injury time goal cost Shirebrook a point against Ollerton

ATT 149

MOTM Darby

Ollerton started the game very strong and Shirebrook were struggling to get to grips with the game it wasn’t until 15 minutes in when Shirebrook had their first meaningful attack of the game but Sam Dockwray put the shot well over the bar but Ollerton again started putting pressure on Shirebrook and in the 28th minute Ollerton did take the lead Conor Higginson making no mistake from the penalty spot after Gav King had been brought down by Billy Simpson Shirebrook did finish the half strong with both Sam Dockwray and Dan Williams both going close.

Shirebrook manager Rob Camm made a change at half time introducing Kieran Darby from the bench and the young forward changed the game from a Shirebrook point of view he started to give Shirebrook that attacking edge they had lacked in the first half and chances started to fall Shirebrook way with both Thomas Widdowson and Kieran Darby going close to pulling a goal back but with 72 minutes on the clock Ollerton extended there lead again from the penalty spot when Gav King was fouled in the box King converted the penalty putting the ball under Shirebrook goalkeeper Levi Owen but in the 84th minute the Shirebrook fightback started when Carter Widdowson smashed a free kick into the top corner and 4 minutes later Shirebrook completed the comeback when Kieran Darby rounded the Ollerton keeper and smashed the ball into the net but the Shirebrook come back all came to nothing when in injury time Gav King shot hit the inside of the post and ball rolled across the line to give the visiting side all 3 points and crush the hopes of the home side.

After the game Shirebrook Manager Rob Camm spoke to the Bootiful game to give his thoughts on the game

“We didn’t get close enough and allowed Ollerton to start playing, and when you do that they are a good footballing team. We needed to set the tone early doors and we didn’t do that. We made two or three changes around half time to try and bring a bit of intensity to our play but then gave away another penalty through our own mistakes which gave us a mountain to climb. Credit to the lads though, they continued to battle and we got ourselves right back into it with 2 good goals and at that point I could only see us going on to win it. All in all, though just not good enough from us”

Shirebrook are back in action next Saturday when they visit Glasshoughton Welfare 3pm ko
