Stamford started the game the brighter of the two sides with some strong defending and some fast counter attacks. 15 minutes in the home side should have taken the lead as Josh Nodder was played in on goal from a long ball out of the back, but his shot was blazed well over the bar. Five minutes later the Daniels were in a very good situation again as Nodder was released again from a long ball from the back, he ran onto the ball and beat the last defender, this time getting his shot on target but could not beat Jake Turner in the Lincoln goal.
Five minutes before the break Lincoln took the lead after a spell of dominance that didn’t lead to any real chances. A corner came in from the right and wasn’t dealt with by the Stamford defence, the ball dropped to Jack McGovern and on the turn he finished well, into the bottom corner. Just a minute later Lincoln could have doubled their advantage as Matt Cotton ran from the right wing, he shot from just outside the area but his shot was blocked on the slide by Chris Salt. Stamford then had a golden chance to get back level before the break as Josh Nodder again was played in behind but from a tight angle could only shoot straight at the keeper.
Five minutes after the break Lincoln doubled their lead. A Danny Brooks corner came in and was nodded across goal to Andy Toyne whose clever flick was goal bound before being helped in by Delroy Gordon. The following spell saw more dominance from Lincoln with Jack McGovern, Danny Brooks and Connor Robinson all coming close to finishing off the Daniels. In this period Stamford also made a double change with Karl Whymark and Josh Nodder being replaced by John King and Courtney Meade.
Later in the game Rogan Mcgeorge came on replacing the returning Sam Hill. On the 70th minute the game was sealed. Sam Donkin called and came for a long ball, Delroy Gordon tried to deal with it not hearing the call from Donkin, this led to the ball dropping to Connor Robinson who finished well into the empty net with a clever chip. A few minutes later the home side had one back as a cross from the left came to Grant Ryan who was unmarked and headed in well.
Five minutes later Jon Challinor crossed to Courtney Meade who was unmarked in the middle but could not beat the keeper with his volley. Ten minutes before full time Stamford almost had a route back into the game. A cross from the right was blocked by the Lincoln left back with his arm resulting in the ref awarding a free-kick much to the disappointment to the home fans who thought that the hand ball was inside the area. From the resulting free-kick Liam Marshall shot well with his left foot forcing a good save out of the keeper. From the corner the ball dropped to John King who shot over the bar.
