On the 14th minute new signing Laurie Wilson almost had the dream start to his debut as he met a long throw from Jon Challinor but his header went just over the bar. This was all that happened in a poor first half with the only other piece of action in the first half being an incident following a heavy challenge on Rogan Mcgeorge leading to Liam Marshall and Alvin Jarvis getting booked.
At half time Jon Challinor was replaced by John King. On the 57th minute following a corner Delroy Gordon laid the ball off to John King whose curling shot went well over the bar. Three minutes later Curtis Hartley received a clever ball from Jake Duffy, he crossed to the middle where Grant Ryan was lurking. The goalkeeper came but was in no-man’s land, but Grant could only see his header loop over the keeper and then be cleared by the Gresley defence. Following this opportunity Rogan Mcgeorge was replaced by Jamie Mcghee.
On the 69th minute Leandro Brown had Gresley’s first real chance of the game as he cut inside from the wing but his curling shot was an easy save for Sam Donkin. Four minutes later another clever pass from Jake Duffy carved open the Gresley defence, this time the ball was to Jamie Mcghee who crossed to the back post where Jordan Smith was left unmarked but his header was off target, traveling wide of the post.
On the 80th minute the only goal of the game was scored as Reece Morris cut inside from the right wing with Stamford stretched to the limit; with John King off the field receiving treatment and Laurie Wilson down with cramp. Having cut inside he struck a low curling shot in past Sam Donkin. After the goal Chris Hollist replaced Laurie Wilson, who had a strong debut. With moments to go Grant Ryan headed high and wide from a Jake Duffy corner.
