On Thursday evening of last week Strathmore 1st XV hosted Perthshire RFC in a friendly match at Inchmacoble. Both teams have been enjoying the mid season break due to the International Autumn Tests which saw some great rugby from the Scottish Internationalists culminating with an emphatic win over Australia on Saturday.
Strathmore’s league, Caley Division 1 resumes this weekend but unfortunately it is a free week for the Men in Black meaning another weekend without a game, so friendlies are vitally important to keep the players match fit. Strathmore currently sit top of the League and Head Coach Stewart Ross will be aware that game sharpness is important to allow his players to pick up where they left off end of October.
Thursday nights game against Perthshire who play in BT National League 3, one league higher than Strathie was played over 3 twenty minute periods with revolving subs allowing both teams to give players game time. Strathmore ran out winners 24-15 with tries from Ian Reid, James Kiely and Ali Olivier. Ali Olivier also kicked 3 conversations and a penalty.
Head Coach Stewart Ross commented “It was good to get a game under our belt, we played some really good rugby and a lot of boys got a run which is important as we build towards playing Aberdeen Wanderers.”
Strathmore return to league action away to Aberdeen Wanderers on the 09th Dec kicking off at 2pm.
