Thumping eight nil win

The best of New Year starts for the Pedlar's senior teams, Needham Market Reserves 0, Swaffham Town 8 (eight).

Away to Bloomfields, home of the Needham Market's,Market Men, the first team started this leg of the season in the most prolific fashion, a thumping eight nil victory. The goal fest was opened in the fifteenth minute by captain Alex Vincent, lobbing the keeper from twenty five yards, the second came just four minutes later, Matthew Blackford crossing from the right wing, Joe Jackson firing home from seven yards. Vincent made it a brace on the half hour, picking up a spilled Blackford shot on the edge of the six yard area. Jackson brought down with five minutes of the half to go, Mathew Prudence converting from the spot. Prudence then picked up his second on the stroke of half time, Vincent crossing from the left hand side, Prudence shooting home from twelve yards.
It took just four minutes into the second half for number six to be scored. Vincent's corner from the left found Danny Tindall on the edge of the area, without the ball touching the ground, Tindall controlled, turned and vollied into the top right hand corner for what was surely going to be the goal of the match. Not to be outdone, Luke Reed who had replaced Matthew Gilchrist and had been on the field just nine minutes, fired a blinding shot from twenty two yards out, leaving the keeper no chance and nestling into the top right hand corner. The final damage was done in the eighty second minute, Jackson claiming his second, played through, his shot from fourteen yards saved but he slashed home the spilled ball into the bottom right corner of the net. A sterling performance by the Swaffham side, Needham certainly played some good football and the game was not as one-sided as the score indicates, the defence stood sound with keeper Kevin Cross making two vital saves to earn his clean sheet. Next weekend the Pedlars are at home and entertain in form Framlingham Town in what promises to be an exciting fixture, Framlingham in fourth place with games in hand, Swaffham hanging on to the top spot.
Back at Shoemakers Lane, the Reserves held their own goal fest with a convincing six one victory over Hemsby. Captain Sam Loomes with a brace, Tommy Hunt, Kieran Bruce, Blake Stangroome and Connor Germaney the other goal scorers. The Reserves now sit pretty in fourth spot of the Hadley and Ottaway, Anglian Combination Division 3. No game for them next weekend.
The Veterans are in action next Sunday, Cringleford Old Boys are the visitors to the Lane, the older Pedlars looking to improve position in the Leathes Prior First Division.
