Tavistock travelled to Honiton knowing their status in Devon/Cornwall was cemented for another year. Honiton however knew they needed a solitary point to be guaranteed of staying up. This was apparent from the off as Honiton proved their intent on a glorious day with some well organised and hard running rugby.
Against the sizeable slope however it was Tavistock who started the better. After 10 minutes of possession and dominance at the line out, well worked hands saw Kyle Maslen finish excellently in the corner. George Hillson slotting the tricky conversion out wide!
Honiton were next to get on the score sheet before both teams exchanged penalty goals, taking the half time score to 10-8. Tavistock were moderately happy knowing they had the slope in the second half but felt they must work hard on their discipline to ensure possession converted into points.
From kick off, Tavistock got deep into the Honiton half only to infringe and find themselves back defending their own line. This pressure proved too much as Joe Hair was sent to the sinbin for a professional foul. Dogged defence didn't hold out for long as the Honiton ten found a gap in midfield for an easy score. A final penalty saw Tavistock two scores behind with 10 to play. Despite working their way to the home sides 5m line, the deadlock could not be broken and Honiton held strong for the victory.
