Daventry Add Gearing

By Matthew Lovegrove

Former Northampton Town midfielder Matt Gearing has signed for Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central club Daventry Town.

Gearing is a nippy and quick footed midfielder who could operate down the wing or through the middle and can also fill in just off the striker.

He spent the later part of the 2005/06 at Rugby on loan from Northampton Town after similar spells with Aldershot Town and Bedford Town but signed permanently for the 2006/07 season and became renowned for his long-range strikes.

He briefly trialled with Stamford at the start of the 2007/08 season before opting to stay with Rugby but the lure of then league leaders Hemel Hempstead Town proved too much and he joined the Tudors in September 2007.

He returned to Rugby for pre-season in July 2008 and stayed for two seasons before leaving at the end of the 2009/10.

He has since played for Cogenhoe United and Brackley Town.
