Wadebridge Camels 37, Camborne 5. West Briton report

By Adrian Langdon

Penryn set for drop as Camborne lose again This is the West Briton report which appeared for our Camborne friends!

CAMBORNE, who have been hard hit by injuries recently, suffered a heavy defeat against their Cornish rivals after an extremely difficult first half at the Molesworth Field.

Already lacking skipper Ben Priddey, lock John Griffiths and centre Laurie Manna the Cherry & White cause was not helped by suffering three second quarter injuries in the backs and the sending off of lock Ashley Lawton compounded matters.

Slow to settle the visitors fell 13-0 behind in as many minutes against a home side buoyed by their Cornwall Cup win semifinal over 'Town' at the Recreation Ground the previous weekend.

Red card

Centre Richard Kevern was then forced off with a hand injury followed minutes later by his replacement the unlucky James Rapson with a recurrence of his shoulder problem.

Lawton departed after a fracas around this point and the Cherry & Whites reshuffled team quickly became 13 when replacement Levi Webster was sin-binned for a technical offence.

The Camels unsurprisingly soon added a converted try and wing Joe Parma raced over for a Camborne touchdown before an already limping fly half David Mankee had to retire as half time arrived with the score 20-5.

Three more home tries followed before the visitors responded with great spirit to keep their lines intact for the remainder of the game.

Scrum half Dean Pascoe and replacement flanker Webster worked extremely hard in a determined rearguard action with big tackles going in across the field in a tough day at the office.

Camborne will regroup ahead of a long trip to bottom club Chosen Hill this weekend with their hopes of a possible promotion and Cornwall Cup double of just a few weeks ago now long gone.
