WADEBRIDGE Camels got their campaign off to a winning start with a narrow victory over divisional newcomers Paignton at Molesworth Field.
Camels’ points came from tries by Matt Tarby and Will Pengelly, with Danny Thomas adding two conversions and three penalties.
Paignton took the lead with an early unconverted try by Sam Nelson-Smith, but the hosts edged 10-5 ahead at half-time with a Thomas penalty and his conversion of a try.
The south Devon side got back in front with a Scott Vyle touchdown, improved by Michael Sandercock, but another Thomas penalty and his extras to a second try put Camels eight points clear.
Another Vyle try, again converted by Sandercock, reduced the deficit to only one point, but a third Thomas penalty secured victory for the Cornishmen.
