Great standard of rugby from both teams

Well done to all the children involved in this tight fixture against a very good Bees team. We have had a mixed season to date, no thanks to the unavailability of myself due to work commitments.

What I can say, is well done to Mike, Jim, Gareth and Roger (and anyone else who has been involved) for all your efforts to date. I was extremely impressed with how well the boys have developed over the last few weeks and this showed throughout the morning.

Unfortunately we had a few missing this week so when we only had 13 players arrive for kick off time I was a bit worried. That said, it turned out the postcode put some of us on to the slip road on the M42 and others outside someones house?!?!

Players did eventually make it to us though, so we were able to field two teams (thanks to Bee's for providing us with a player at the start).

We played 6 games against Bee's across two pitches, with Mike taking the one team whilst I took the other and assisted with reffing the games.
Of the 6 games we lost 4-2, but all of the games were very close as you can see from the results below -

Mikes teams
Game 1 = Lost 3-2 (tries from James and Hendrik)
Game 2 = Won 3-1 (tries from Danny, Max and Noah)
Game 3 = Won 2-1 (tries from Sean and Danny)

My teams =
Game 1 = Lost 2-1 (try from Rhys)
Game 2 = Lost 2-1 (try from James)
Game 3 = Lost 4-1 (try from Harry)

Its fair to say, we still have a long way to go, but the effort from all the boys was brilliant. Our rucking is getting much better, when we went in and drove over, we were quite successful at turning the ball over. But, we still all need to try and do the rucking as some were still a little apprehensive.
Mauling was fantastic and there were plenty of instances where we ripped the ball from the opposition. One thing we need to work on in this area is turning our body in contact, as we got stripped a couple of times going high into contact and having the ball ripped from our hands.
Our strength definitely remains our hard running and support play. There were lots of good runs from all players either making good breaks, or drawing in several tacklers to bring us down. We need to capitalise on the space made when this happens.
Tackling was good, but we need to make sure we keep them low. There is still a lot of room for improvement though as we did miss a few tackles.

But lets face it, I'm being picky. I was an extremely proud coach watching what was my first involvement in Sunday rugby games this season. I know having spoken to Mike he was really pleased with all the boys who played on his pitch.

Again, thank you for the players efforts, everyone who has helped coach, but just as importantly to the parents for your continued support.

Its going to be a great season!
