Setback for the First XV

This was a really hard game. The visitors pressed strongly for the first fifteen minutes Glen's having possession only twice in that period.
However the home defence absorbed everything that was thrown at them and came back and regained some territory.
25 minutes from KO the visitors forced a penalty which Shankie stroked over.
Ten minutes later Moore scored for Glen's well out on the wing. Just before the break EK pressurised the home line and Alex Irvine forced his way over for a good score which Shankie duly converted making a half time score of 5 - 10.
On the restart Thomson kicked a penalty for Glen's and a few minutes later Russell McKeown hacked ahead a loose ball on the halfway line and beat the visiting defence to the touch down. Three minutes later Shankie kicked another penalty for the visitors.
Two minutes later McKeown picked up a kick ahead by Thomson to score for the home side making the score 18 - 13.
Another penalty from the boot of Shankie brought the score to 18 - 16 with about twenty minutes to go.
This was a game of no quarter asked or given but three minutes from time Neil Ellison skipped over for the visitors leaving no time for Glen's to retaliate.
