Bitter pill of defeat for the 1XV, scoreline flatters visitors
By Tracy Bailey
a game that was there for the taking....slipped away 2nd half
A stronger line up of late for AK1XV, as we gladly welcomed a couple of players out recently due to injury, back into the mix, crowd buoyed by a strong determined start by the hosts, as we battled for everything. Blackburn definitely having to work hard for position, AK's defence was resolute and unforgiving in the first half which closed on 9-8 to the visitors, all their points coming from penalty kicks, AK with a try (unconverted) & a pen from Matt Tully.
Second half started with both teams on equal footing, when once again cracks started to show from AK, giving away penalty after penalty, the accuracy of their number 10 never in doubt as the game started to drift away from AK.
So much so, we didn't increase our tally at all in the 2nd half, as Blackburn monopolised on our mistakes, AK getting to the opposition whitewash on more than one occasion and definitely playing the better rugby, but lacking the final finesse to take the ball over the line.
Final score 34-8, the score to be honest does not truly reflect the commitment shown by AK but another defeat to add to the previous 5 non the less.
Rest weekend next Saturday, 1XV return to action on Sat 25th November 2:15pm away at Manchester RUFC who sit just one place above us in North One West League.
