Phase 1 Complete

By Tim Holland

Army RL completed a "clean sweep" over the Royal Navy on Fri 07 Sep 18, with the Academy, Women and 1st XIII all winning in Aldershot.

A brilliant display from the Academy saw them through victorious against the Royal Navy Academy 32-22, though they were pushed all the way by the men in blue, who were ahead with less than 15 mins to go to the final whistle. It was a cracking game and probably one of the closest Academy fixtures for some years.

The Women's team put in a very professional performance with a emphatic 76-0 win over the RN, never taking their "feet off the gas" as they racked up a huge score. RNRL were just unable to deal with the Army side's powerful running and better game sense.

Finally Stage 1 of the Army's 2018 IS campaign was completed with a hard fought 1st XIII win over the "Brothers", 36-16. After a blistering start by the Army, scoring within 2 mins of kick off, the Navy had fought back to edge ahead, before the home side poured on the power to draw level and then pull away.

The Army 1st XIII, Academy and Womens' sides will make the long journey North to take on the RAF in Featherstone on Fri 14 Sep 18.
