Ashton face a trip to down south to FA Trophy holders Brackley, Written by Daniel Evans

BRACKLEY TOWN VS ASHTON UNITED
DATE: SATURDAY 5th JANUARY 2019
KO: 3:00 PM
VENUE: St James Park, NN13 7EJ

Ashton come into this game in very poor form having only won two games in the last fifteen, losing twelve of those and this leaves them languishing in the bottom three. Ashton’s last victory came on Boxing Day away to local rivals Curzon Ashton with goals from Anghel, Askew and a brace from Matty Chadwick sealing a 4-2 victory. Despite this poor run of form Ashton are only four points clear and with a win on Saturday, the gap could potentially close to one point leaving for a thrilling relegation battle.
Brackley Town however come into this game in better form. With only three defeats in the last ten league games, however five of those are draws. Brackley’s last victory came last Saturday over Nuneaton Borough with goals from; Matt Lower, Liam McAlinden and James Armson seeing the Town win 3-1. This leaves Brackley currently in 10th place and four points of a play-off spot.

ONE TO WATCH
Brackley’s top scorer with twelve league goals, James Armson, is our one to watch for this encounter. The 28 year old started his career at Nuneaton back in 2012 and spent three seasons there before moving to Solihull Moors in 2015. His stay at Solihull Moors didn’t last long as at the start on the 16/17 season, the midfielder made the move to fellow National League North side Brackley Town. He made a great start to life at Brackley as in November he scored a hat trick against league side Gillingham to knock them out of the FA cup. Since then the midfielder has ensured he has scored over ten league goals in each of his three league seasons in Brackley including a 25 goal (in all competitions) haul in the 16/17 season and has firmly established himself as a fan favourite.

FIXTURES IN FOCUS
It’s a full fixture list in the National League North this weekend with important fixtures for clubs at both ends of the table. League leaders Chorley travel to strugglers Hereford and if Chorley slip up, it could allow for one of Bradford Park Avenue to overtake them if they manage to beat third place Stockport County in what is no doubt the tie of the weekend. Another important tie is AFC Telford vs Spennymoor Town as both teams are looking to close the gap at the top. Ashton no doubt have the trickiest tie of the weekend as they are one of the only two teams in the bottom eight to face an away tie with the other team being Nuneaton who travel to Southport.

The full fixture list in the National League North for Saturday 5th January is as follows;
AFC Telford vs Spennymoor Town
Blyth Spartans vs Alfreton Town
Boston United vs Altrincham
Brackley Town vs Ashton United
Curzon Ashton vs York City
Darlington vs Kidderminster Harriers
FC United vs Chester
Guiseley vs Leamington
Hereford vs Chorley
Southport vs Nuneaton Borough
Stockport County vs Bradford Park Avenue
