Chadwick Puts In Command Performance v Royals

By

Report by David Robinson

Another great performance from centre forward Matty Chadwick saw Ashton comfortably home at Hurst Cross against the relegation threatened Royals. Fresh from winning the Supporters’ Club Player of the Month for January he could have registered in the first few seconds as he fired a loose ball wide but within 6 minutes of the kick off Domenico Maiese’s cutback from the by line saw Jack Dyche provide the finish from close in for his second goal in as many weeks since returning from Scunthorpe. Dyche had already battled his way to the dead ball line and seen Ryan Crowther denied by James Wren in the visitor’s goal with Chadwick miscuing the rebound.
Dyche’s inside pass then sent Chadwick into the area from where he brought a decent right handed save out of Wren but just past the half hour the Robins doubled their advantage as Crowther turned provider putting a left wing cross on to Chadwick’s foot for the second goal. A rare sortie upfield for the visitors saw Howarth send a header tamely wide from Curley’s cross.

The second half was largely a quieter affair with Chadwick almost continuing where he left off sending an effort swinging across goal before Domenic Smalley’s cross was tipped away from under the bar. Maiese then had to be replaced following a head injury with Josh Stachini making his debut from the bench. Richard Sho-Silva then just cut out Crowther’s pass denying Chadwick a clear run on goal and the final few minutes then saw both sides reduced to 10 men, firstly Sutton Coldfield’s captain Michael Townsend received a second yellow card before Dyche saw red for catching keeper Wren as he tried to reach Chadwick’s return pass.
Chadwick still had time to register again in added time as he outpaced Richard Sho-Silva from out wide and slid home his second and Sho-Silva himself got a consolation for the Royals as he headed home Nathan Fox’s free kick from 6 yards out.

Team: Pilling, Smalley, Maiese (Stachini), Mason, Connor, Lees, Roberts (Coo), Smith, Chadwick, Dyche, Crowther (Banim). SNU: Knight, Lowe.
