Dynamic Duo Look To Raise The Bar!

By Steve Hobson

James Burch speaks to Dale Johnson and strike partner Martin Pilkington.

“I come away disappointed when I haven’t scored more in games!” Dale Johnson, Striker.

The Robins have endured two postponements in a row and Ashton United forward Dale Johnson believes recent cancellations won’t halt the club and his recent good momentum.

He told the club website, the team has been left frustrated after an un-eventful fortnight in terms of game time, but hopes it won’t hold the team back in future games; “It’s been really frustrating, as you want the momentum to continue. If we had taken points from the two teams it would have put us into a good position, going into the business end of the season.”

Adding; “I’m honestly not bothered teams around us have slipped up. I haven’t even checked! It’s about Ashton United winning as many games as we can and that’s all that matters.”

29 year-old forward Dale Johnson hopes his team will go one step further than last year, with the help of his goals and the team’s performances, gaining promotion to the Conference North isn't an impossible dream.

Ashton United striker Johnson has scored four times in 2015, with eight in total since re-joining the club back in November from Salford City; “It’s been the most pleasing part for me finding the net as much as I have. I’m not stopping either.”

Johnson went on to say; “I come away disappointed when I haven’t scored more in games. I’m hoping this run keeps going and it takes us as high as possible up the table.”

Johnson has played for nine clubs in his illustrious non-league football career and has always seemed at home playing on the hallowed turf of Hurst Cross.

The forwards strike partner Martin Pilkington has also scored three times this calendar year, meaning the front line has recorded seven of the side’s twelve goals in 2015.

From their first game together, the partnership has clicked and Pilkington hopes the ‘deadly duo’ will continue scoring goals for the side; “Dale and I understand each other’s games. He compliments my game and I’d like to think I help his too. He knows where I’ll be before I’ve even made my run and to have that communication with your strike partner is great.”
