We entertained Staines Lammas after two cup defeats in a row, so this was a chance to keep our league form going. The game didn’t start well as I had Lewis Old and Matt Kelk both pull up in the pre-match warm-up which meant a change to the starting line-up. We started the game really well and played some good football however our final delivery was letting us down. We also found the Staines Lammas keeper in fine form as he pulled off a great save from Dan Cox.
The only threat that Staines Lammas had was from set pieces and it was from a corner that we gifted them the lead. Jack Mallaby failed to come and collect the ball from 3 yards out and ball ricocheted off Al Reid and into the net, 0 – 1. A poor way to end the first half. The half time team talk was about remaining patient as we know that we would create chances.
We started the second half on fire and again the Staines Lammas goalkeeper pulled off another top draw save from Ethan Dixon. We finally got level when Joe Pantony scored from close range from Neil Hardy’s cross 1 – 1. At this point it looked like we would go onto claim all three points, but we pushed up too far, lost our shape and this allowed Staines Lammas to get in behind and slot home from 6 six yards. 1 – 2.
In the last 15 minutes we threw everything at Staines Lammas, but their goalkeeper and defence stood strong. Overall an average performance and now 3 straight defeats; how quickly things can change in football, with injuries and no luck in front of goal. We entertain Windsor in the Premier Challenge Cup on Tuesday night.
