Ash United's good start to the season continued with a win against Bagshot at the Shawfield Stadium on Tuesday evening (21st August). Emeka Nwaubani opened the scoring on 5 minutes - or did he? There was some dispute over whether Nwaubani could claim the goal or whether it should be recorded as a Bagshot own goal. However the club decided to go with the home team player's claim and credited Nwaubani with the goal.
Eight minutes later and he scored again and Ash United were 2-0 up after 13 minutes. A lapse of concentration in dealing with a Bagshot corner 15 minutes before half-time and Ayo Awoshoi had the ball in the net to make it 2-1 to Ash. Bagshot pushed for the equaliser, with the game continuing its frighteningly fast pace and spectators being treated to seeing good chances go amiss by both teams.
The dismissal of Al Reid, a former Ash United player, for 2 yellow cards, meant that Bagshot were up against it, but they continued to battle hard and caused a number of "hearts in the mouth" moments during the second half. On 53 minutes Tom Bale scored Ash's third goal. Then Emeka Nwaubani scored with another goal on 72 minutes, making it 4-1 to Ash and the player claiming his hat trick.
On 83 minutes, James Whitehouse smashed the ball into the Bagshot net to make the final score 5-1 to Ash.
