A game of 2 halves saw Askam fight back from 24-0 down to snatch a dramatic win.
The first half saw Jude's soaking up constant pressure 17 defensive sets to be correct and then scoring some great tries which kept Askam scoreless until the dyeing seconds of the first half when the law of averages said they would score and they did right on the hooter. Judes Man of the Match Nathan Bevan started the ball rolling when his quick thinking from dummy half play set up speedy winger Joey Brady to score wide out,Scott Robinson goaled. Then came a 20 minute spell of constant pressure from Askam but outstanding defence from Brett Taberner,Barry Gregson, Tom Owen, Nathan Bevan,Keiron Gaskell, Nathan Moore,and Gavin Rodden kept the visitors at bay on many occasions.
St Judes 2nd try was against the run of play when from a resulting scrum on Jude's 25, Jude's broke and Dean Hunt put Scott Robinson away on a searing run to the line to score,Scott obliged with the boot from wide out. Jude's were yet again defending another Askam attack when quick thinking Loose Forward Gavin Rodden burst from his line to intercept the ball and race away up the field were the supporting winger Joey Brady finished off in the corner Robinson slotted over from the touch line. Late in the first half center Adam Lavin got on the score sheet with a great Jude's try ,Hunt,Rothwell and Rodden heavily involved which the dependable Robinson Added the two to make it 24-0.
In the dying seconds of the first half Askams endeavor payed off and they finally got on the score sheet with a flowing move down the right edge Joe Satterthwaite finding full back Russ Bolton who crossed with what would be a very important try to make it 24-6 to Jude's at the half.
Askam started the second period with confidence and found it easy to get up the field and Jude's seemed to be defending a lot…24 unanswered points in fact!
Ben Lewney was 1st to score in the 2nd half after a kick into the Judes in goal was fumbled and Lewney was there to pounce. 24-12.
After more pressure from the Askam forwards Garry Bolton hit the ball at speed to go over in the left corner 24-18.
On 70th minute Askam scored again when Barry Pugh burst through the middle with Sam Dowsett and Tom Wilkinson supporting. From a fast play the ball the Judes defence was at 6s and 7s and Jamie Butler gathered the ball and crashed over 24-22.
Soon after Askam received a penalty on the 40m line and Adam Jackson stepped up to level the scores 24-24.
It was all Askam now but when Judes were awarded a penalty Robinson calmly stepped up to slot the ball over 26-24.
With only 2 minutes remaining Garry Bolton came up with a big play as he managed to bundle the Judes player into touch on the half way line. Askam had 1 set to snatch the win, and a dramatic last play saw Adam Jackson feed Russ Bolton out the back to dart in from 20m out and seal the win 24-30.
