Volunteers 'Pitch In' to ensure games go ahead.

Following overnight heavy rain last Friday (2 Feb), the club's ground staff were forced to put out an emergency appeal for volunteers to come down to the club on Saturday morning ahead of the scheduled league game versus Skelmersdale United.

With the fixture already having fallen foul of the weather on Boxing Day, and with a Blackburn Rovers Ladies' match scheduled for Sunday afternoon, the club needed to pull out all the stops to avoid further postponements.

Fans set to work forking the pitch

Following the 11 am pitch inspection, the club were advised the match could be playable if the standing water on the pitch could be cleared. The call immediately went out via the club's Twitter and Facebook pages asking for volunteers to come down to the club to assist.

The appeal received a great response and a team of around 20 volunteers made up of Brig supporters and club staff (some pictured above) turned up ready for action.

With limited time before the match referee was due, the team set to work with forks, brushes and the bow dry to get the water cleared.

After around an hour and a half of brushing, bow-drying and forking, the team had done all they could and hoped their efforts were enough.

The hard work was rewarded and the pitch was declared fit by the match referee.

After the game, first team manager Neil Reynolds took to Twitter to thanks the volunteers:

In addition to Reno's thanks, the club officials and committee would also like to extend their thanks, both to volunteers who turned out on Saturday and also those who help out throughout the year.
