Chairman On New Year And Battle Ahead

By Adam Dennehey

Barkingside chairman Jimmy Flanaghan has commented on getting behind the team, in our battle to avoid the drop.

The following will be included in his 'Secretary's Scribblings' section in next friday's matchday programme when 'Side are at home to Tower Hamlets. Kick-off for that match on January 4th is at 7:45pm.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi one & all welcome to Cricklefields for tonight's encounter with Tower Hamlets. A warm welcome to our visitors, especially forward Luke With who gave us tremendous service as a player.

Well how about that then? We went unbeaten the whole of December, which following the defeat to Ilford in November, I didn't think I would be writing those words.

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! Thank you all for your support during 2018, which was a fairly depressing year for the club all round on the pitch.

I recently went on the excellent East London Radio show as a guest of Adam Richardson and Pete Dudley. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It gave me an opportunity to put across my views on what has happened so far this season and also to respond to some of the dreadful abuse that's been aimed at what is a fine football club, not my words but how i know we are viewed by the many friends we have in football.

The kind comments I have received from friends in the league since going on the show having certainly helped with the mojo; which that and the 'Romford Factor' have certainly boosted the clubs spirits.

We now enter a New Year. Will our fortunes improve? I honestly can't promise you that. All i can promise you is that I now believe we have a squad that has the stomuch for the fight that lies ahead. What will be will be, but I can promise you hand on heart, we will give it a damn good fight. Very little shoots have started to appear, lets feed those shoots and hope they blossom into a fine crop.

I said on the ELR show that this season has been the hardest to take in since I joined the club in 2008. We now need all of us to remain upbeat to help the boys, by not shouting negative comments if an error or a pass goes astray to make allowances and remain focused as a group.

The only way we will get out of this is through togetherness on and off the pitch. We have 17 Cup Finals, starting tonight against a Tower Hamlets side that are improving with every game they play.

We have to battle, we have to go into every tackle every game like we are going to win it, sod the pretty football for the remainder of the season just fight, fight, fight our way out of this mess we are in.

Winston Churchill once said if you are going through hell....keep going that's what we need to do keep going. Another saying in the ESL is: 'it ain't over to the fat chairman sings.'

Lets just say I'm ready to clear my throat, I can promise you one thing if or when we do get out of this hole, I will chirp, chirp and chirp at all those so called out of work experts that have slated our club for a couple of months on social media.

I believe in the people we have on and off the pitch around this football club.
Yes we will lose along the way in our battle, but if we win the overall battle that's whats important.

We have some massive games here in January at Cricklefields, we need as many Soldiers off the pitch to help those on the pitch.

So come along, strap yourselves in for what promises to be one hell of a bumpy ride! Get behind Alex and the boys! Show them we are all up for it.

As always your support is greatly appreciated. A very happy New Year is sent to you.
