Show Racism The Red Card

Town team up with anti-racism charity

“As a coach and as a manager, I have zero tolerance for racism in football and I'm proud to say that we as a club hold the same values.” Gavin Chesterfield

During the month of October, football clubs across Wales will be showing their support for the Show Racism the Red Card Month of Action as a vehicle to deliver an Anti-Racism message to the community, using the power of sport.

On Sunday afternoon, Barry Town United will host its latest Day of Action at our match against Connah's Quay Nomads, both teams will be wearing anti-racism t-shirts prior to kick off and will be uniting together to stand against racism.

The club, which is proud of to offer a positive and inclusive matchday atmosphere, has previously supported the cause before fixtures at Jenner Park with Chepstow Town and Cardiff City Football Club.

Our club ambassador this season is striker Drew Fahiya who shared his thoughts on racism in football:

"There's no room for racism in football or society. I am proud to be the club’s Ambassador for Show Racism The Red Card and look forward to working to ensure we are teaching valuable lessons around combating racism across our 36 teams".

Gavin Chesterfield has also highlighted the club's stance against racism, stating "as a coach and as a manager, I have zero tolerance for racism in football and I'm proud to say that we as a club hold the same values".

Show Racism the Red Card itself is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. The organisation uses the high-profile status of football and players to help tackle racism in society, while delivering ceducational workshops to young people and adults in their schools, at work and events held in stadiums.

Show Racism the Red Card's Action Weeks form part of the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) Football People Action Weeks, with the aim to unite supporters, clubs, ethnic minorities and communities affected by discrimination, while increasing public awareness and tackling discrimination in football.

The Action Weeks challenge such discrimination, promoting integration values and celebrating the input of individuals that strive to make football a game for all, regardless of who they are, where they are from and what their beliefs are.

In addition to increasing the awareness of the campaign's work and messages, the Day of Action will also help clubs underline and draw attention to the work that they are already doing to challenge racism and promote equality.

The support from clubs continues to help the campaign progress their work in Wales. Last season alone, the campaign worked with over 13,000 young people and held a number of educational events at stadiums across the country supported by professional players. The campaign will meanwhile be expanding their program of challenging racism in football during this season, endeavouring to work with more grassroots clubs and players across Wales.

Football is a sport that is followed by all, and should be an enjoyable experience for all, whatever their racial or ethnic background. We hope you enjoy the game this weekend and ask you to support the players' action, joining them in saying NO to racism! If you see or hear racism at any level, please report it to the nearest steward or club official.
