REPORT | Barwell 2-5 Buxton

By Luke Pawley

Barwell collapsed out of the FA Cup with a 5-2 defeat to Buxton.

The visitors dominated the play early on, despite the best efforts of Barwell captain Brady Hickey with his aggressive pressing from the front.

Liam Hardy posed a threat for Buxton throughout the first half and Diego De Girolomo looked to pull the strings for an imposing Buxton side.

With the game looking to be level going into the break, Josh Meade’s shot on 39 minutes was parred into the path of Liam Hardy, who tapped home.

With one minute until the interval, Liam Hardy fired home from 10 yards, beating goalkeeper Liam Castle at his near post.

In stoppage time, Brady Hickey fired home on the half volley to reduce the deficit for Barwell.

Substitute Kade Coppin extended Barwell’s lead just before the hour after some good pressure from the visitors.

Half way through the second half, Hickey fired home his second of the game to reduce the deficit, only for Diego De Girolamo to cancel it out minutes later with a close-range strike.

Buxton were well in control at that point and Diego De Girolamo rounded Liam Castle to roll home from one yard and seal Buxton’s progression to the next round.
