In the final league game of the season, Basildon ran out comfortable 2-0 victors over The Bantam, with Dawfydd Williams' early effort deflected in for an own goal being doubled by fellow manager James Williams, who drilled low past the keeper in the second half.
With the club looking forward to their third cup final in as many years in a fortnight, a small squad was available, and was stretched early on, when D Williams was forced off with a knock only three minutes after the first goal. Paul Collard replaced him, making his last appearance for the BaBas, as was Chris Hadrill, who has also announced his retirement for the end of the season.
Both keepers were tested throughout the game, which was entertaining and free flowing, with both sides passing the ball well, but the BaBa's put the game beyond the visitors shortly after half time, when J Williams strode past the defensive line, before striking a powerful shot low across the keeper into the bottom left corner.
Basildon end the season in third position, their lowest of the three years of the short existence, but following two successive promotions, still a fantastic achievement.
Basildon look forward to their tie with FC Woodley at Scours Lane in a fortnight, with their eye on more silverware.
