Statement from Ralph Allen

By Roger Worsley

The statement from our new chairman as seen in the local papers

As you are probably aware by now, the club has recently been purchased by a consortium lead by the first team Manager, Jon Taylor and his Father, David.

At the recent management committee meeting I agreed to take the role as Chairman on behalf of the new owners, players, volunteers and supporters.

I have been the Chairman of the Youth Development Squads for four years and this summer I joined the management committee of the senior club as Vice Chairman to represent the youth and also to assist in the day to day running of the club.

The new owners have acquired a fine asset in Bedford Town Football Club. It is a well run, well established local institution. The previous Chairman, David Howell has provided the club with an impressive facility and firm financial foundation. The new owners thanked David for this legacy and would now like to build on that by growing the club, its support and its future achievements.

They have already made progress in establishing The Bedford Town Football Learning Foundation and there are plans for further integration between the senior and youth sides of the club so the pathway from youth to adult football is clearly defined as a route the young footballers of Bedford can take.

There are plans under consideration for increasing the profile of the superb function room and sports facilities at the club with youth tournaments, boxing matches, music events and of course christenings, weddings, parties and other functions.

On the pitch the team are well placed for a push towards the play offs. They sit 9th in the table after a five game unbeaten run and have recently made a number of excellent signings on and off the pitch to bolster the chances of going for promotion. If we don’t quite make it, we have the basis of a very competitive squad for next season and there will be further investment to ensure we are in the mix when it comes to promotion.

The future looks very exciting going forward and I appeal for supporters old and new to come to the Eyrie and support the team – Come On You Eagles!!
