Duns vs Berwick pre season

By Alistair Grieve

All things borrowed in first game of the season

Berwick 66 Duns 21

Berwick travelled to duns tonight to play a pre season friendly. Unfortunately Duns only had 13 so we borrowed them a couple of players to make it fair. In return they lent us some strips as I only managed to bring 10
Duns started the brighter with Berwick repeatedly giving away penalties. Eventually It took its toll and the duns tighthead crashed over for the score. Try converted 7-0
Berwick soon found their feet with good runs from James finlay and Ethan but unfortunately lack of support or ball not going to hand allowed duns to clear. Berwick went again and this time managed to score from a strong run from Greig wood. James Newton converted.7-7
Some good passages of play followed from both teams creating some exciting rugby for the crowd watching. Duns unfortunately dropped the ball on the Berwick 5 metre line from some good play. Berwick had the put in and lost their scrum duns claimed the ball and dived in for the try. Score converted 14-7
Halftime
Berwick started this half brighter and straight from kick off was on the counter. Stuart Farnaby won the ball and made hard ground towards the try line he got tackled short and managed to stretch out to dot the ball down. Converted 14-14
Duns started to tire due to being unable to replace their players with fresh legs. Berwick's onslaught came scoring a further 7 try's through Finlay Wealleans x2 James Crees x2 Rafal Krzeminski x2 Duncan Horsburgh X1 James Newton converting 4 and Logan Waddell x1. 14-59
Duns never gave up and scored another try through hard work. Ethan Stewart did well to hold up the tight head prop from scoring but from the resulting scrum duns managed to dive over for the score. Converted 21-59
Berwick had the last say of the night with Finlay wealleans completing his Hatrick on the final whistle. James newton converted.
Final score 21-66

Plenty to work on at training the next couple of weeks before we get into the school conference. Was good for the boys to get a game under their belt and blow the cobwebs away. Thanks to duns for the pre season fixture they never gave up and made the first half very entertaining.
